TRUISMS
REMAKE PROJECT
TRUISMS BY JENNY HOLZER
Following guidelines to “remake” a project of an established artist, three other students and I decided to produce a series of poetic and approachable statements, a remake project of Jenny Holzer's Truisms series.
We wanted to perceive another way of approaching Holzer’s concept, by finding a connection between context and words. Jenny Holzer’s phrases are usually decontextualised from their medium but we wanted to create a relationship between both. We made metro posters, t-shirts, vinyls, projections, and a prototype of a barcode scanner that reveal words ironically connected to the medium and/or the context in which it is represented.
“REMOVE AN EARBUD AND LISTEN TO YOUR FOOTSTEPS”
“IT'S RAINING OUTSIDE, RAINING ON THE STREET ABOVE YOU”
“STRANGERS DON'T MEAN TO BE STRANGERS”
"UNDERSTANDING YOUR OWN HEART MAY TAKE YEARS"
"LE MONE ROULE MOINS VITE EN SILENCE" (THE WORLD ROLLS SLOWER IN SILENCE)
“DON’T GET RID OF YOUR DARKNESS HERE”
“THINK OF THE LAST PERSON YOU TOUCHED”
